Symptoms of clock spring failure in steering wheel (buttons only working on half of steering wheel, horn not working). There are recalls for this same issue on other model Fords where at appears the airbag may be implicated. There is no recall for this on my model year, and Ford could not provide insight as to whether my airbag was also implicated.
I was driving with my cruise control set at 58 mph at 5:45 am this morning when I heard a loud "thunk", my vehicle decelerated rapidly, the speedometer dropped to zero then the engine revved up rapidly. I applied the brakes and the hazard signal to try to avoid an accident. This is not the first time such an event has occurred. Ford has csa19s07 active on my vehicle but the local Ford dealership has told me my vehicle is not covered by this csa. I have reported these incidents to Ford motor company with no resolution. My 2-13 F-150 has approximately 105,000 miles. I bought it new and have maintained it at Ford dealerships. Childre Ford in sandersville, GA recently performed the 100,000 mile service.
The contact owns a 2004 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA hotline. The contact was also informed that the repair could not be covered under NHTSA campaign number: 11v107000 (air bags) because the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
in 2006 i was in a rear end collision where i was struck from behind and forced into the vehicle in front of me and we were forced into a third vehicle in front of us. it resulted in several people being sent to the hospital with serious injuries. i was in the middle of two vehicles and my air bags did not deploy! i had a broken rib from the steering wheel and severe whiplash resulting in a surgery that left me in serious life long pain. the surgery consisted of 12 pins, 10 screws, 4cadavor disks and fusion of 5 levels of my neck. my drivers airbag did not deploy and i believe if it had worked properly i would not have been so seriously injured. the vehicle hit me from behind at a high rate of speed as i was at a stop in a on the highway. the impact forced me into the vehicle in front of me but the air bags did not deploy. the estimated speed of the vehicle that hit me from behind was between 65 and 75 mph.

traveling at 40mph. hit at the front right fender. shearing off tire at ball joints... causing truck to slam down on the ground and slide at least 75 feet on the frame.. no air bag deployed. i was injured and think if the airbag would have come out maybe my injuries wouldn't have occurred. *tr
i had just turned right. when i looked up i saw 4 head lights. the car that hit me was passing in a double yellow line section of the road marked for 45 mph. we had a head-on collision where my airbags did not deploy, his did. *tr
tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f150. when starting the vehicle, the airbags deployed without warning. he then turned off the engine and disconnected the battery. he was able to turn the horn off. there were no injuries. the dealer was contacted and they stated that they have never heard of this type of failure. they then added that because of the mileage and age of the vehicle, they would not assume any responsibility. the insurance company advised him that he will have to pay the deductible on the vehicle. no repairs were made. the failure and current mileages were 125000.
the drivers air bag deployed while driving at a slow speed in a bank parking lot. there were no other vehicles around and the truck was not hit. i have driven this vehicle for thirty five thousand miles. the dealer thus far has not found a cause for the air bag deployment. they have contacted ford and the response back to them is it is my responsibility and i should contact my insurance company. *tr
