Okay, so the car just had $700 (WTF, man!) put in for new rotors and brakes. Last night, the car died in a parking lot. AAA said that I needed a new battery. I believe that--the car is 5 years old with original battery. I knew I was on borrowed time every time it got cold out. This morning, taking the kid to school, and suddenly the dash board goes dark. I coasted into a parking lot where I waited 3 hours for a tow, only to be told that the alternator is burnt out and that it took over 2 hours to access it. My jaw dropped. Why the hell would Ford a) make an alternator that only last 69,000 miles and not the life of the car like they used to back in the day and b) put it in a place that you need to take apart the whole frickin car to get to it? Sonofabitch! So right out of the gate, labor alone is like $180, plus the part...Now that the Big 3 got their $15 billion loan, can they please start making parts that won't break? UGH!
I've had my Ford Focus less than 2 years and I've had to replace the transmission ($1,200 - automatic), I had a cracked head in the engine ($2,100), the brake lights don't work (wiring harness on the hatchback, which is another serious reoccurring ((not reoccurring)) problem with escorts), the plug in lighter broke, and yesterday the steering wheel locked and the key wouldn't turn. When it happened I didn't have the luxury of "googling" the problem. So after 20-30 minutes of yelling, cussing, beating my steering wheel and steering column... the key turned.I got home and Googled the problem and wasn't shocked to see that this is yet another major reoccurring problem in the LONG list of complaints with the Ford Focus. I did try the key tapping method (hitting the key with a hammer or screwdriver) and luckily that did work. I'm going to attempt the advice given by post #98 and see if that works for me as well.I will NEVER buy another Ford. I will bash Ford and their products for the rest of my life.
a few months ago i spun out in the ditch and now every bump i hit the back end swings side to side nobody can find anything wrong, my suspension components are supposively fine and my frame measurements are fine, the other day i went over a patch of ice and i was only going 15mph and i lost controll of the back end...
Simply put, nobody seems to know what wrong with the car and its been at the shop more then at home. If the car has set for a while, when you use reverse, the car stops moving, as if you have applied the brakes. A new car and it isn't for !@@#. I always knew there was a reason I wouldn't buy a new car, now I know.
It's very simple. While driving up I-95 N there was a loud pop, engine started to lose power, pulled over opened the hood there lay the spark plug and coil pact on the engine. Finally got help after an hour or so . Put the spark plug back in and the coil pact back on and it idles like and old a model tractor. Don't know......
2002 Ford Escort ZX2 - runs very rough, especially in drive and stopped (like at a traffic light). 2 mechanics have replaced motor mounts, adjusted idle speed - no good. Anyone else have similar problems?Update from Jul 28, 2013: For Cathy F. - Hi. No, never did. I had the engine replaced, but could only find one from a very good rebuilder - but it wasn't warranted because they'd had so many problems with that kind of engine. I took the risk. The engine was bad. I took a $3,000 loss and just traded the poor thing in on a new car. Very sad. I really liked the little car.
first off i am very ticked off because i have had everything fixed on my car and the damn car stills runs rough and not sure how to fix it.
I was just saying how great this 02 Ford Escort has been, on my way home from work, made a stop, when starting back up, CLANK_CLANK-CLANK! Turn it off, No crack! had to tow. Repairman said, "The o rings on the rods were made with GLASS infused metal, that chips of slowly"! Seeing the spark plug chipped he said, it's bad. RUINED, BLOWN engine! "The GOOD news, he said is they started making the replacement parts for it out of all metal, but, most of the time the engine or rods are too badly damaged to replace it and would cost more than $1,500 if it had been done prior to knowing. What kind of back bassackwards fix would that be from FORD? There SHOULD have been a re-call! REALLY! Glass infused metal against moving rods!? They HAD to know what would happen? To junk and sell more cars?I took a look on craigslist, found other escorts w/ "Blown engine" Decided to call them and ask. YEP same thing. Can find plenty replacement parts, no motors. But why would i replace the motor when it would have the same treacherous rings!? GAH! SUDDENLY Car-less from NO fault of mine regular oil changes all these years.. ugh! for what!? We've been had. 4 or 5 times over the past year it would shake and run ruff when started, I'd shut down restart. fine. Sometimes idled rough at red light. He said, "That's when small little pieces were chipping away. Then things just flew all around the chamber till it wrecked it. Kaboom! Just like that. Cant trust car makers for the middle class anymore. They did cash for clunkers, got all the good old cars away from us. The ones that had regular metal keys. I asked the dealer WHY will my key cost $300 and WHY would if have a computer chip in it, when i have manual everything? They said anti theft. Sure, Escort is a hot car to steal? Can I say... farkers..?
4th time that CD player ate CDs - this time I smelled burning plastic and smoke coming from CD vent - this is not longer just an inconvenience- it is now a safety issue - Kennedy dealership in Conshohocken, PA an Ford customer service will not do anything about this since the car is out of warranty - I think that there is a longstanding problem with the CD player or the engineering of the CD player - I was told by Kennedy service manager that after the original CD player all the others they installed were "refurbished" - I suspect that they never installed a new CD player but only tried to appease me and left the same CD player in the Escape - I want the Kennedy or Ford to replace this at no cost to me since it is now a safety issue - Kennedy service said they couldn't "replicate" the burning plastic - smoke situation
The ignition key does turn on because steering colum locks. Ford really needs to handle this delima and fix it for the customers since it's the customers that's keeping them in business for so long!
