manual transmission intermittently came out of fifth gear and went into neutral while driving 50-70 mph. car was taken to an repair facility other than toyota, where a service bulletin was found. car was then taken to toyota dealer and the transmission was rebuilt. toyota of america was notified. i was informed that toyota did not consider this 'problem' which they knew of worthy of a recall because it did not effect enough vehicles. *tr

I would like to report my safety concerns from the crash accident. Feb. 14 Wednesday I drove my wife’s car 2017 Toyota Rav4 xle. On intersection l stop completely on red stop lights. L was first, had no car up front of me. Than from behind other car Ford focus fit me with a full speed 45. I was only in the car. On the hit my seat slid forward causing my knees to hit the dashboard. Then the seat flattened causing me to fall backward. Also the cover of moonroof got opened. While lying back on flat seat l saw sky. I was able to self extricate. L was in shock from what just happened. 3 hours after the accident l had gradual onset neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, and a generalized headache. After 5 hours l went to er on same day , than again er next Monday , than l saw my primary care doctor a week later-next Wednesday. Now if l will have a child in baby seat or teenager or adult seating behind driver , for sure they will get hurt badly or injured or killed. I have reported this situation to Toyota hq. They responded that this accident will be under investigation. P. S. Takata airbags did not blow out.
While driving around 60 mph the engine suddenly started jumping revs and would not catch back into gear. Turned engine off and on and vehicle would shift normally from 1-3 but would not go into 4-6 gear. Had to place transmission in manual mode and select gear 3 to drive home. Brought to a local transmission shop and was told it was the torque converter. This issue also cause the check engine light, tsc light to come on. It was also throwing codes for faulty shift solonoids.
Vehicle has whistle or whining noise on acceleration at 55-70 mph. (previously the vehicle made this noise at lower speeds and the transmission was replaced (repair order was opened on 6/1 and closed on 6/9/2016). As stated above the vehicle now whines/whistles at 55-70 mph. Apparently replacing the transmission did not resolve the issue.
Delayed/harsh shifting when accelerating or maintaining speeds of 60 - 70 mph. Shuddering sporadically when rpms are between 2000 - 3000. Marysville Toyota of washington reproduced and confirmed the issue noted above. They diagnosed the vehicle with a failed torque converter. No warning light have come on and the dealership was made aware of this as well. Due to no warning lights, it came as a surprise when the vehicle jolted. I was on the highway maintaining speed when all of a sudden there was a delay and the vehicle began to reduce speed then after 20 - 30 seconds the vehicle forced itself over 3000 rpm and began to regain speed. As the vehicle would suddenly reduce speed without warning I utilized the right lane until I was able to exit from the highway as I was becoming a hazard on the road due to the issuing my vehicle was having.
It says is something wrong with the eco or pcm.
The contact owns a 2016 Toyota Rav4. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, between 2,000-3,000 rpm, the vehicle jolted backward and stalled without warning. The vehicle shuddered and the brake pedal was depressed to regain control of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to jack taylor's alexandria Toyota (3750 richmond hwy, alexandria, va 22305) where a diagnostic test was performed. The contact was informed that the defect was related to the torque converter. The contact was informed that the torque converter needed to be replaced, and was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000.
The rear seat shakes over any rough surface. In watching the headrest for the rear seat in the rear view mirror while driving there is about a 2-inch sideways travel. Have tried the seat in various positions and the problem remains. By rough I don't mean potholes. . . Things like changing lanes over reflector buttons, freeways with rain grooves, things like that. My 12 year old Jeep grand cherokee's rear seat doesn't shake at all in these conditions, but this Rav4 rear seat most certainly does. The shaking is so bad sometimes that it rattles. I am very concerned about an infant car seat strapped into this back seat as the infant my be exposed to excessive shaking or vibration. I took it to the dealership (Toyota carlsbad, carlsbad CA) on October 7th 2013 and they verified the issue. Rather than take steps to correct it they tested another Rav4 in the same way and found that it too had the same condition as mine. Based on this they tell me that it is a 'normal condition'. I believe it is a design flaw. Never have I seen a car with a seat shake such as this. In testing further I find that if someone sits in the front passenger seat the rear seat shaking seems to reduce. If someone sits in the rear seat and they weigh 150 pounds or so there is a minor vibration felt and the shaking is almost non-existent. However, if only the driver is in the car the shaking resumes or any less-than-perfect road condition. I feel as though Toyota needs to address this issue primarily for the risk of injury to infants strapped in the seat as well as cockpit noise (rattle). It is a flaw in the design of the vehicle to be sure.
