Recently purchased car, check engine light came on. Diagnostics scan shows 2nd cylinder misfire, ignition coil faulty. Went online to check common issues with this model. . It is a common issue with most 04 Escapes. Lots of complaints for wheel well rust. . Upon inspection, mine too is corroded and the shock is coming through the floor board in the hatch. I heard noises while driving but hadn't inspected it until now, as I just bought this vehicle. The corroded spots were concealed under the carpet. Unsafe to drive. My photos are too large to upload.
I was driving at approximately 45mph when my vehicle lost speed, and would not respond to pressure to the gas. As I coasted to the side of the road, I had to shut the vehicle off and back on to get it to work. I have had it happen a dozen times since then. In a parking garage, at low speeds, on the interstate at 70mph.
I have had to replace my engine/transmission several times and the problem keeps repeating itself. The engine will just die for no reason which is an extremely severe safety risk.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid. The contact stated that the auxiliary cooling pump failed which caused the gasoline engine to shut down as it was electric. The electric motor still functioned but the gasoline engine would stall. When the failure occurred, a message on the instrument panel warned the contact to pull over safely. The contact was able to drive home but could only drive 7-8 miles before they would have to pull over again and let it sit. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the cooling pump had failed. The vehicle was repaired at the contact's expense. The failure mileage was 52,961 and the current mileage was 53,045.

i have had brake liquid leaking from the engine container since i purchased the car around 2001. i notified the dealership and the first time they said the cap malfunctioned and they replaced the cap, the second time they said i overfilled the container but it never stopped and to this day the container leaks. i also have had the car stall on several occasions. i thought this to be just a freak accident until i read these postings and it appears the problem is wide spread. one time it stalled while driving on interstate 81 at a high rate of speed, i thought i was going to wreck but managed to pull over with out an accident. now my car has a hard time starting for no reason. at first i had the battery replaced, but the problem just got worse. now i sometimes spend 20 min trying to start the car, when it finally starts, it stalls and when its finished stalling, it accelerates on its own and stays that way for several min. until now i just thought these were rare occurrences but now i don't think they are. i believe they are all safety problems and not once was i notified of any recall to fix. my coolant light came on over 8 months ago and is still on despite having it checked and no problem was found.*cn
my 2002 ford escape with 9,000 miles has a tendency to stall while coasting at an extremely low speed. hitting a slight speed bump is responsible for most of the occurrences. my vehicle has stalled at least 12 times during the last 4 weeks. the problem may be related to an infrequent tendency of a dead instrument panel when starting with a key. if i get out of the vehicle and get back in, it will eventually start except for one time when it had to be towed. but, my complaint is the stalling problem. the dealership has not been successful in fixing anything and they told me that it stalled on them as well. while nobody has hit my dead vehicle yet, it is a concern. thus far, the vehicle has been able to restart after stalling, it is not an easy restart. the stalling has mostly occurred after the vehicle has been driven 3-6 miles and slowed for parking purposes and stalls when i sharpely turn the steering wheel for parking. there is a little speed bump 20 feet from my parking slot in front of my house. i just wish my vehicle would idle faster. *ak
