the tone ring which inputs pulses to the abs computer fails on many many ford escapes. when this happens the abs computer applies the brakes in abs mode even though the vehicle is on dry pavement. this causes the vehicle to swerve, making directional control difficult. this can cause accidents! there is one hall effect ring on each wheel. the state of virginia states that this condition of a failed ring is a safety defect. see safety rejection dated 3-16-15 i.d. Brake master cylinder is leaking brake fluid I read about a previous recall not sure if it pertains to my model but it leaks everytime I push my brake pedal.
The brakes completely failed and I was unable to stop the car except by turning up hill and applying the emergency brake. I had it repaired by Ford in bangor and it turned out that the abs module had failed. It seems unreasonable that there was no mechanical backup to a failure of an electronic part.
Upon starting up the car, and after accelerating, the brake lights and anti skid lights came on and there was a chime. Upon pressing on the brakes, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and the car did not brake. Luckily I was on a side street both times and had room to coast to a stop without hitting anything. This happened twice in the span of three days. Upon having it towed to the Ford dealer, they stated the abs module had failed and they replaced it.
tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph and attempting to decelerate, the brake pedal became stuck to the floor board. the contact was able to stop the vehicle by engaging the emergency brake. the vehicle was towed to a local mechanic, who performed a brake inspection which located the front passenger's side brake line was fractured prematurely. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 35,000. *tr
Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid. The contact stated that the brake light illuminated and the brake pedal failed to respond several times. The contact had to apply force to the brake pedal due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for several repairs and the condition continued with the brake pedal failing to respond when applied. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who said that the condition was common and that they were not able to replicate and diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000. Dyd.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal would depress to the floorboard. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was informed that the brake pads needed to be replaced. The brake pads were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The brake rotors and calipers were replaced but the failure persisted. The dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that the flex brake line needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The flex brake lines were replaced by the contact's husband. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
in 2004, my 2002 ford escape, after being parked overnight, caught fire. the fire was traced by the dealer to the abs computer. the vehicle was past warranty and ford motor company denied repeatedly that there was any possibility of any defect, or that there was any manufacturer responsibility. calls to ford's customer hot line were handled in an unsatisfactory manner. the vehicle was repaired using new parts. *jb
tl* the contact owns a 2002 ford escape. the contact stated that brake fluid was leaking onto the brake reservoir. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician advised that the master cylinder would need to be replaced but the part was not available for repair. the brake warning light continued to illuminate intermittently. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 12v005000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock:control unit/module) that could have been related to the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
brake fluid from the master cylinder leaked on a wiring harness and caused multiple system failures including the abs system, the cruise control, the driver's side air bag, and the display on the radio. the service tech indicated that i was lucky i avoided a fire. this seems very similar to the recall on the ford f-150s that is causing multiple fires. *nm per diagnostics for the verification of the airbag lamp, the cause was due to the power fuse of the module/open circuit from abs internal circuit damage. *sc
