the airbag light keeps coming on. i took it in for service for regular maintenance and then the light was off. i've had the car now for 10 years this december. i can't recall a time my airbag light has not been on. just recently i started researching and found their is a short wire under the drivers seat and it has a little gray prong on it. the gray prong needs to be grounded and it should be attached the bars the seat slides back and forth on. i stuck the gray plug in and the airbag light went out. the only problem is every time you move the seat it pushes the gray plug down and eventually it will come back on and i will have to fix it again. ford needs to correct this problem. the problem is an easy fix and i don't understand why they don't change the plug or make a longer cord. ford needs to fix the problem. i love my car but hate the frustration. *jb

car was involved in a front-end collision at about 30-35 mph in dec 2002. air bags did not deploy. ford dealer repaired damage. air bag light would flash and stay on at intermittent times. dealer checked and could not find any problems. recently the air bag light began to flash, then stay on continuously, every time vehicle was started. now the air bag light does not come on, however we receive a series of 5 beeps, 5 times, every time car is started, and every 30 minutes if vehicle is running. took vehicle to dealer and were told the instrument cluster needs to be replaced as well as the airbag wiring harness. total cost = over $1100. dealer would not guarantee this would solve the problem. internet research reveals we are not the only consumers with this problem. ford should be responsible to repair all escapes since they are aware of this issue. *tr

a wiring harness for the airbag/safety restraint system in my 2003 ford escape frequently has problems causing the airbag light to illuminate -- and according to ford the airbag is disabled. i have had this problem off and on since approximately 2005. ford is aware that this model year has problems with this wiring harness and issued a technical bulletin that owners must replace the harness. if wiring harness is faulty and causes airbags to disable, shouldn't this be a safety recall instead of a technical bulletin for consumers to repair at their own expense? *tr
