dt*: the contact stated since ownership, the lower ball joints have been replaced three times. the vehicle was purchased at 44,159 miles and has been driven 22,530 miles since purchase. the breakdown on the repairs are; on 12/13/03 at 28,676 miles both lower ball joints were replaced, on 08/05/04 at 35,260 miles-the left lower ball joint and spindle arm were replaced, this was only 6,584 miles since the previous ball joint replacement, and on 12/26/05 at 44,159 miles-both lower ball joints and the right upper control arm were replaced at only 9,331 miles from previous replacement. the contact expressed concerns regarding the continuous repairs to the service manager at the dealership who determined the niagara falls area has the highest rate of failure for ball joints in the country. there were no additional explanations for the extreme rate of failure. most of the miles on the truck are thruway miles. this vehicle has never been in an accident or driven in a manner to cause or aggravate this type of problem.

we've had our 2011 ford explorer for less than a year. we bought it used with approximately 130,000 miles on it, it now currently has approximately 190,000 miles. we were about to leave our house, so the explorer was stationary at the time. i started it up and immediately an error popped up on the dash for "power steering fault" and "advancetrac" warning. i attempted to drive the vehicle, but without power steering i would be putting my family and myself in danger. luckily this happened while the vehicle was stationary. if my wife were out driving and this happened, it could have been very bad for her and my kids. we set up an appointment the ford dealership in our town, they found that the power steering rack needed to be replaced and told us that it would cost ~$2100. i told them it should be covered because of a recall i found online for this problem. they told me to call ford customer service. my wife called and they told her there was nothing they could do. i proceeded to call back the ford customer service and spoke to a rep. after getting the run around he finally gave me a case number to give to the ford dealership, expressing that this would be fully covered under a field service action #: 15n01 for epas steerring efforts, with no cost to me. i gave the case number to the ford service rep. today i get a call back that the case number is declined by ford because our vehicle has over 150,000 miles on it. we never got a recall notice in the mail or a call from ford mentioning the recall before the 150,000 mile deadline. we've had this vehicle for less than a year and still owe $8000 on it, and ford wants $2100 to repair a part that they knew was a common problem.
The rear view camera shows the image as a mirror image. In example, items that are actually on the right side appear to be on the left side when viewing the camera. In addition, the camera often times just goes black and shows no image while in use.
transmission failure with overdrive light blinking .no first gear,shifts hard , sometime it wont shift without letting off gas .with codespo731,po733,po734,po745 needs total rebuild this happened while driving down the road at 40 miles a hour , abs light is on . codes show wrong line pressure.engine knocking , timming chain issues.
While driving the vehicle suddenly power would be lost. When applying more pressure to the accelerator, no usable power was present and the vehicle could not exceed 30 mph. After this occurred on the 4th time on a subsequent day, the "engine" symbol was displayed. Currently the vehicle is at a Ford dealership to troubleshoot the problem. On two occasions this discrepancy with acceleration and functionality of available power nearly caused an accident with small children in the vehicle. This should cause a major concern to other owners and Ford motor company as a whole due to the potential damage, injury, or death that could occur due to completely losing acceleration and/or power while driving.
Back up camera reversing rear images which is very dangerous. Also the camera often times just doesn't work at all.
Passenger side strut mount broke causing noises when turning either direction. Making steering hard. When looking for replacement part, it was hard to locate because this seems to be a common problem and parts can't be kept in stock.
