Coasting to stop at intersection transmission did not disengage and engine suddenly accelerated to 2000 rpm. Held brakes and rear tires spun. I knocked trans into neutral and engine returned to normal. It has done this twice in 2 days. No floor mats and no contact with accelerator pedal. I did have a witness to this incident. Uncommanded acceleration -very bad! is there a recall for this already?.
2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, 5 speed automatic, v6. Transmission fails to engage; truck has difficulty accelerating from a stop and will roll backwards from a stop if on an incline. Transmission also slams gears and feels like the vehicle has been hit from behind. Dealership has failed to repair and has worked on the vehicle for over four weeks with no permanent resolution. Fixes last a couple weeks and then it fails again. Transmission has been removed and many parts replaced, but it still does not work properly. Vehicle does not feel safe from a stop and I am in fear of an accident due to the transmission failing. Ford technician has been working with dealership, but has been only applying band-aid solutions.
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 Ford explorer. The contact stated that the check engine light and wrench icon illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test, who stated that the torque converter would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000. The current mileage was 92,000. Kmj.
2008 Ford sport trac has a problem with the transmission. The consumer noticed that after coming to a stop, the vehicle was not making a smooth stop, but rather lurching several times in stopping. The dealer performed a program on the transmission, however the continued.
An orange wrench light comes on on my dashboard and I can't pick up speed. I've had it looked at a few times and no one can figure out the problem. There's been many people on youtube complaining of the samething. This is very dangerous and should be investigated immediately, luckily the interstate wasn't busy when my truck lost its ability to accelerate. I could've cause a car pile up and there could've been many lives lost.
2008 sport trac v8 4 wheel drive. I must wait approximately 30 seconds before backing truck out of my garage. . . Any sooner and the engine just revs but will slowly move after reaching 6,000 rpm. Truck also advances slowly from a stop. 1st dealer advised me it actually was 21 seconds and that I should just wait the 21 seconds before shifting to reverse. 2nd dealer cannot duplicate problem because it is intermittent and seems worse when weather is warm and humid. 1st dealer indicated they did a reflash of transmission but 2nd dealer confirmed they did not and accomplished it and shifting improved. Truck still does not downshift correctly to first gear upon coming to a stop or near stop and truck will remain in higher gear unless full stop and one second both occur. Found plenty of same type complaints online from 2007 and 2008 sport trac owners but Ford and their dealers try and convince me that there is no problem and they are not aware of others with same issues. Reflash so far seems to have fixed problem of hard down and upshifting but created the slow down shifting to first gear. Numerous close calls when truck is slow to accelerate into traffic because it does not down shift to first gear after slowing to 3 miles per hour or lower like ever other vehicle I have owned.
complete and total catastrophic failure of transmission while driving 65 mph on highway. i was traveling in my car with my family when we heard a loud explosive bang from under or car. i shook my wife and scared my children. i knew it definitely was not good and felt an immediate loss of forward momentum at highway speeds, we were traveling in the fast lane at the time and other vehicles were following behind us. they were not happy and hammering their horns at our sudden and unexpected deceleration. luckily no one rear-ended us or panicked and slammed on their own brakes which could have caused a major collision on a major interstate. i was able to coast over to the emergency lane and come to a safe stop with in a few feet of a yellow emergency call box. we signaled for assistance and help came to me and my family within 10 minutes. (thank you to all by the way) we had the car towed to a local major brand transmission shop where they found the transmission fluid to be burnt and black, metal pieces in the pan and determined the transmission to be a complete loss and have it replaced with a certified rebuilt transmission. 69,000 mile at time of failure. not acceptable at less than 100,000. this is a safety issue because if this were to happen to an inexperienced driver or other drivers around these vehicle when it happens at highway speeds, a serious possibly life threatening or fatal accident could result from this type of mechanical failure. this is not a slipping transmission or a car that wont shift gears or an issue similar to those type of complaints. this is a total and complete failure of a major vehicle component under normal operating circumstances. i don't have pictures, as i am remote from the vehicle until i pick it up when service is finished but i will be able to provide towing receipts and repair bills from servicing transmission shop. *tr
I bought the truck new in may 2010. I had all the scheduled dealer maintenance completed as scheduled and the vehicle has never been off road. The four wheel drive has been engaged twice, and the majority of the miles have been on the highway. Thirty miles from ft leonard wood the transmission began slipping. The vehicle was sluggish when accelerating from a stopped position causing a hazard in city driving or merging onto the interstate. The vibration increased on the highway at speeds above 50 mph making it difficult to steer. When I arrived at my destination, I dropped it at the dealership the next day for service. The service representative called and informed two maintenance lights were on for engine and transmission service. I agreed to move forward with the scheduled maintenance. The dealership called later that day and informed me I needed a new transmission but could not explain what the codes meant or the cost of repair. I asked for clarification, but no one ever got back to me with an update. I received a text my truck was ready for pick up, but the staff could not explain the problem. I am now at day seven and after countless phone calls to the dealership and Ford customer service line. No one can explain the issue or offer assistance because the vehicle is not under warranty! my questions. Why is the transmission shot after only 37,000 miles? if it is replaced, what reassurance do I have this problem will not reoccur in another 37,000 miles? is there assistance for a drive train component replacement that is supposed to last 100,000 miles and likely defective? why is this a warranty issue and not a quality issue? the staff at the Ford customer service center try to keep bouncing back to the dealership and refuse to put me in contact with the regional manager or supervision staff.
