The contact owns a 2005 Buick Century. The contact stated that when activating the right turn signal, the vehicle would stall. When activating the left turn signal, the instrument panel would flash abnormally. The dealer and manufacturer were contacted and denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. The contact believed that the ignition starter switch would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 87,000 and the current mileage was 88,000.
When driving my car over 5 miles it will choke and not let me accelerate and the speedometer goes to 0. Can you tell me what the problem could be?.
I had driven my 2003 Buick Century at least halfway into a parking space in a parking lot when it suddenly lurched forward like a bat out of hell, leaping up over a curb on an upward slope, swiping a cement lightpost on the left, crashing into another car across its left front, bumping down over a curb, then crashing up and over two more curbs. With divine help I was able to avoid other cars and steer it to a stop, then drive gingerly into the original parking space. Since I was originally in the process of slowing to a stop, my right foot was on the brake at all times. I had never heard of many automakers' infamous "sudden unintended acceleration" manufacturing defect and had no idea what was happening as the car went from 1 or 2 mph to full throttle instantly. With both hands grasping the steering wheel while the car jerked violently, I was unable to shift into neutral, as I was attempting to avoid other parked vehicles. I emerged with no broken bones, but the car was totaled. Because I am a "little old lady," the insurance company deems me "l00% responsible," in spite of my clean driving record. But "sudden unintended acceleration" fits my scenario to a tee.
The car will speed up on its own while the foot is off the pedal. Also, when I have my foot on the break at a light, the car will start reeving up as if I had my foot on both break and accelerator. I have taken the car to different mechanics to get the problem fixed to no avail. What could these be? I am afraid that one day I will get in an accident do to this problem.

i drive with my headlights on all the time. the instrument panel illumination dims drastically when the headlights are on. i cannot see the gauges. although there is a dimmer switch for the instrument panel, the brightest setting is inadequate when the headlights are on. i need to have the automatic dimming feature removed. *tr

wiring under fuse panel caught on fire and melted wires in fuse box. no fuses blew to protect wiring. *ak
dt: the consumer experienced unwanted acceleration on 2000 buick century. sporadically, there were super high revs when the vehicle was first started. then the consumer had to stop the car and restart it again in order for the revving to go to a correct idle speed. the car has been to the dealership 4 times over this problem. this did not happen for the first four and half years. the dealer has replaced the throttle position sensor two times and the computer once. the consumer is still having the unwanted acceleration problem. the dealer can't figure out what the problem is. *jb
there is an electric short in my vehicle and the consumer was afraid it was going to catch on fire. the headlights flickered and lost the radio. also, speedometer/headlights and tail lights did not work. the dealer said that there was a short in the vehicle, and for consumer to call nhtsa and report it. *ak the vehicle failed to start on 6/18/05 and finally started but each time the vehicle was started, the clock would go out along with other units. *sc *jb
