our daughter was nearly killed by a driver with their lights off. many drivers of late model cars are not aware that their lights are off because their dash is lit and their driving lights are on. there are no alerts telling people their lights are off!!!!! our seat belts make noise, if a car door is open it alerts us. i have observed that approximately 10-20% of cars on a street or freeway are driving with their lights off. this is a major problem and needs to be solved. this is the second time i have complained with no result. if there is no action i will be filing a class action lawsuit in the name of my daughter against the ntsb to demand action. please respond.
Headlights turned off while driving. No headlights or brights only available.
The contact owns a 2005 Buick Century. The contact stated that the headlight bulbs were positioned too close to the plastic cover lens causing the plastic cover to fog. The failure would cause reduced visibility of the roadway and the contact believed the failure could potentially cause a fire. The dealer advised they were not able to assist with the defect. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 57,000 and the current mileage was 72,617. Updated 12/21/10 the consumer stated the transmission was slipping, the rotors, tires and seat belts needed to be replaced. Updated 12/3/10.
2005 Buick Century headlights turn themselves off while driving. This has happened on three separate occasions . I believe a faulty high low beam switch is the problem.
The contact owns a 2004 Buick Century. The contact stated that when switching from high beams to low beams, all of the headlights would fail. The failure would occur on an intermittent basis. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised him that he needed to have the high and low beam switch replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 38,700. The VIN was unavailable.
While in motion the high beam will go out and low beam with it - no lights at all. You must push or pull the turn signal lever to turn the lights on again.
There is an electric short in my vehicle and the consumer was afraid it was going to catch on fire. The headlights flickered and lost the radio. Also, speedometer/headlights and tail lights did not work. The dealer said that there was a short in the vehicle, and for consumer to call NHTSA and report it. The vehicle failed to start on 6/18/05 and finally started but each time the vehicle was started, the clock would go out along with other units.
Headlights went off while driving on interstate at night. ( I may have flashed my high beams to signal a truck that it was safe to change lanes before this happened. Interior lights still working when this happened. Nothing I did would bring headlights back on. Very dangerous problem!! car mileage approximately 62,000. 12/21/2017 date.
- the contact stated that the 2004 Buick Century headlights turned off while driving the vehicle. On 02/15/07 at 30 mph on a rural highway the headlights blinked off and on, and then they went out again and stayed off for about 1/2 mile. The contact stated that the current odometer reading was 33,800 miles. On the next day he took the vehicle to the Buick dealership and they replaced the dusk dawn sensor. After the repairs he drove the vehicle, and the next night the headlights turned off again. The contact hasn't driven the vehicle since the last event with the lights turning off. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer, and was given case# 71-495164830.
when i bought my 2002 buick century in 2003, i asked the dealer to turn off the drl on the car. they insisted they could not because of manufacturer & highway safety laws, but said i could contact the mfg. but that it required much paperwork & an extensively satisfactory reason for this to be done, so i quit asking. once again i have decided to try to get the drl on my car turned off, since it seems to cause so much confusion to on coming traffic when i am signaling to change lane or turn. i contacted buick & got customer support rep, that had no idea what drl even is, & declined to escalate my case up. at best she told me to go to a dealer. so the dealer tells me to go the the mfg. then the mfg tells me to go to the dealer. can you do anything to help me? all i want is to drive my car without the parking lights on! i thought it was illegal to drive with parking lights on. *tr
