sudden acceleration problem occurred when a 2004 gx-470 decelerated from 30 mph to approximately 2 mph to turn left into a driveway when the vehicle accelerated full throttle and collided with a parked car in the driveway. there were two passengers in the vehicle, one in the front next to the driver the second an infant in a car seat in the back center position of the vehicle. the sudden acceleration was coincident as the driver initiated the turn into the driveway, the front car tires where fully turned to the left and the passenger in the front seat opened the front left car door to exit the vehicle before it was fully stopped. the sudden acceleration pushed the passenger exiting the vehicle back into his seat and he never was able to exit the vehicle. it should be noted that this problem occurred in southern california and there were no additional mats in the vehicle other than the original lexus car mats. in addition a possible related symptom occurred twice over the four year history of the vehicle. the vehicle has been sent back to lexus in which it was reported that when the vehicle was in palm springs and the temperature was over 110 degrees that there were acceleration problems with the vehicle. lexus returned the vehicle indicating that they could not repeat the problem but did not investigate the problem under the heat conditions. even after the accident lexus refuses to test the vehicle under the heat conditions. the day of the accident the temperature was about 75 degrees. the passenger in the front seat is an electronic engineering that runs a company that is know in the industry as resolving intermittent problems in the most complex systems of department of defense (dod) (e.g. f-14, ea-6b). his observation during the accident is that there was extremely low probability that the driver could of moved their foot from break that was used to decelerate the vehicle to the point when the sudden acceleration started. *jb

my lexus gx 470 has accelerated uncontrollably since jan7, 2010 (first occurrence) and last occurrence march 12, 2010 . it generally occurs at light throttle from a stop and turning left at intersections and is compounded by a loss of electronic stability control also on wet pavement. thus far, i have been able to react quickly enough to keep speeds under 60 mph. my wife and daughter have not been so fortunate and will not drive in and /or be a passenger in the vehicle. i'm handicapped and had a service dog who was killed in one of the crashes. if a neck can be broken then we are dealing with a very dangerous situation. i am a former toyota executive engineer/ chief engineer for 8 years and have a huge amount of knowledge in this subject , such as program retention of ecm and denso throttle. toyota knew of these electronic problems beginning in 2002 how many deaths in a lexus gx 470 , before a recall occurs????????? *tr
we were proceeding to make a r.h. turn from on two lane road to another in a 2003 lexus gx when the accelerator stuck and esc completely failed . although i pushed transmission's lever in neutral . the rear end skidded outward and no esc or abs was evident. i steered into skid and then steered into ditch to avoid offset collision with oncoming traffic. and skidded into ditch on opposite side of road . severe concussion and amnesia for driver as dead slammed into driver's window . passenger suffered left leg injury. i reported two prior incidents to nhtsa jan 9 , 2010 , etc and no response . now i am going public and to senator rockerfeller that nhtsa is totally unresponsive. *tr
on 4/13/2010, consumer reports released test results on a 2010 lexus gx 460 indicating the suv should not be purchased due to rollover safety issues caused by a defective electronic stability control device. on 3/30/2010, i leased a 2010 gx 460 from lexus. i am now afraid to drive it and would like to return it. *tr
this is a report of sudden acceleration. on july 30, 2016, the lexus exited a conveyor-belt type carwash at 5203 kirby drive, houston, texas 77098. my pregnant wife was driving the car with two children (ages 4 and 2) in car seats. after receiving the green light from the carwash to proceed, my wife shifted from neutral to drive and the lexus took off towards kirby, a very busy four-lane street. my wife depressed the brakes but they did not work. the lexus hit a flowerbed adjoining kirby and struck a large 3' diameter decorative concrete ball which slowed the vehicle and turned it to the right. my wife then turned off the lexus at the ignition. the vehicle suffered damages requiring $9,166.58 in repairs. a surveillance camera filmed the incident. the copy is too big to attach so it can be found at https://youtu.be/ah4wr0zoj-a. also, the footage was magnified and reveals that the brake lights were on while the vehicle rocketed towards the flowerbed and that they then went off, demonstrating that the driver 'pumped' the brakes in an effort to stop the car. this edited footage is at https://youtu.be/9qkmml4bi3k. the internet contains substantial discussions of sudden acceleration associated with car washes. if the flowerbed and giant concrete ball had not been there, the vehicle would have entered kirby drive and a substantial accident would have occurred. i have raised this matter with lexus and, notwithstanding the video, lexus has said there nothing wrong with the vehicle. i found lexus' response to be very disturbing especially since my entire family could have been lost that day. in my opinion, lexus could not care less about safety or my family.
There’s a know problem with the control screen/navigation in the Lexus vehicles. The dealer replaced the timing change cover gasket and airbag on my 2104 gx460. They had to disconnect the battery to do this knowing the screen may not reboot and start working but finally it did after about 3 days. They didn’t even tell my wife about it when she picked it up. They also replaced the faulty air bag from a recall notice. Very simple to keep 12 volt on system while removing battery connection. Park Place Lexus Grapevine Texas. I am gonna remove access covers and see that the cover was done correctly, check belts and all the bolts are tight, geeesh. I hear their techs a rejects from more reputable mechanic shops.If ou take your vehicle in ask them; are ya gonna disconnect the battery cable, please keep 12 volts on the control screen.
the driver, passenger, and rear tailgate electronic locks have all failed in the last 6 months on the car. i'm constantly having to remind my kids and wife to lock the doors before they start driving. i'm particularly concerned about the rear cargo door. the lock is failed in the "locked" position and there is not a manual lever to pull from the interior or exterior to unlock and open the door. i no longer allow my kids to ride in the 3rd row seat out of fear that there will be an incident where i need to get them out of the cargo door and it won't be available. the internet is full of reviews where this seems to be a widespread problem, but lexus has not acknowledged and no formal recall has been issued. i reached out to lexus this month to see if they would work with me on a solution, but was told my car is out of warranty. any help would be appreciated.
we bought this car brand new in 2015. since then, we had to change batteries 4 times now. back in 2016, when the first battery had to be replaced, the dealer also changed something with the stereo, because of the electrical issue. but the problem still exists. there's something wrong with the car's electrical system, battery suddenly goes dead. car has about 85,000 miles on it. most recently, we were at a graduation ceremony about 80 miles away fron hime, on a hot day, and after the ceremony was over at around 2:00 pm, we head back to the car to drive back, but suddenly car didn't start. i had both my senior parents with me and it was just a horrible situation. this car is unsafe to drive, because you never know when it's going to leave you and not start. whether it's so many miles away from home or any delaership, late at night or early morning.
the infotainment center in my 2014 gx460 is stuck in the rebooting phase. this system controls the cars temperature, radio, and vehicle settings. not being able to access all of the temperature controls poses a safety risk especially with extreme temperatures. ive heard this is a common issue with this vehicle and am shocked there hasn’t been a recall for it.
