Once again, our brakes failed on the Lexus GX. This time, the car hit our garage door (backing out) and continued a good 40 feet into a retaining wall. Luckily Lexus tells us the car is fine--just like last time. Have hired an attorney now...hopefully we'll get somewhere. Have owned many Lexus over the years, really shocked they are doing nothing to help.
lexus is selling vehicles with bad brake actuators. i took it to them twice and which they say they don't know why i'm here the noise and why my brake pedal was rattling when i look on the lexus forums i see several people complaining about the brake actuators are going out on their vehicles some vehicles only have $34,000 on them. the dangerous part is that you get no warning lights or anything if it goes out and you're on the expressway you can not stop the vehicle at all, one person even blogged about how there's went completely out on them luckily they were driving up in the driveway but the vehicle never stopped. lexus is charging people anywhere from 2 to $4,000 to fix these when they know that several of their vehicles are having these problems while still new. i just took it to lexus again last week and the servicemen said it sounds like the actuator is going out if it is then that's going to be $4,000. while driving the vehicle i hear a lot of clicking up under the hood and you can feel the vibration all the way through the brake pedal.
my wife drove into my garage and applied the brakes and the brakes failed and the dmage to the car was $10,200 and the garage wall was also damaged. the car was in the auto body shop for 3 weeks. now the car is devalued to the carfax accident history.
Our GX 470 has been a great vehicle. My husband is on a group that has GX 470s and they said to try upgrading to the GX 460 calipers which helped with the bumpy/vibration feeling when braking (felt like ABS was engaging). Now my brakes are squealing when I brake slowly (drive thru, stop sign, etc). It doesn't happen all the time but it is embarrassing. We will take it back to the shop and see what happens. ???
Car's brakes failed twice in the same day--one time hit a retaining wall, once was able to use emergency brakes. Had care towed to Lexus. After 2.5 months without the car, they sent us a form letter that the car was fine. Now what. NEVER BUY A LEXUS!
2nd time brakes failed after they were supposed to be fixed. Back to dealer. Almost rear ended another vehicle who stopped in front of me. Pedal all the way to floor, nothing. This time they said they found the problem, it was the master and slave cylinders which they replaced and assured me it was fixed this time. This was in November 2006.
I purchased this vehicle about 6 years ago (2006) when it only had around 30,000 miles on it. I had to have the brakes done and the rotors turned less than a year later. Then a couple years after that - had to have the rotors turned again. Three years later - it is apparent they need turning again. I just read this has been a problem with other Lexus GX470s - not sure why, but you shouldn't have to turn your rotors every couple of years, especially when I average less than 20,000 a year on the vehicle - mostly highway mileage. It is a pain and not that cheap either at $200 to $300 a pop. Other than that - I love my GX 470. I just wish this was not an issue. My guess is they will tell me I will have to replace the rotors this time when I take it in since I know they have been turned at least two or three times now.... No telling how much that will cost me.
i bought this 2023 gx460 new in october 2023 from lexus of towson in towson, md. it currently has approximately 3100 miles on it. since owning it i have noticed that when coming to a stop and sitting still with the vehicle in gear and the brake pedal engaged normally that the vehicle will start to move on it's own causing more pressure needing to be applied to keep the vehicle still. this initially caught me off guard several times. it is a repeatable problem. i can see that the engine rpm's are increasing by 100-300 by without throttle input which seems to trigger the need to apply more brake. i searched on forums and found other toyota/lexus, including gx owners complaining about this. this is dangerous for obvious reasons.
with brake pedal all the way to the floor, vehicle rolls from stopped position. brake fluid is not low and no brake fluid leak is apparent. no warning lights illuminated.
