Frame of truck rotted. Went to change shocks and it fell right off. Removed the bottom bolt on the shock and the 15 lbs shock fell to the ground with the top bolt still attached to the frame. 2 years ago had to replace the the hitch due to rusted out glad I was not pulling my 6000 lbs camper down the highway. The frame is so badly rotted it is unsafe to drive down the road. Not surface rust holes the inside of frame is rotted both sides. Unsafe to drive. Owned this truck for 9 years.
Frame rotted through on left side by gas tank back to front of rear spring shackle, rear center tube support broken on both sides allowing rear shock brackets to rub brake lines and wiring harness. The rest of the frame has perforation and excessive rust scaling.
October 29,2020 I was traveling down a highway when I noticed traffic was stopped and when I went to apply my brakes the pedal went all the way to the floor and I had nothing not even a light came on to notify my of an issue. I also tried to apply the emergency brake and it snapped and at that point I had to leave the road way to avoid hitting any cars or anyone, and in doing so iwent towards a ditch and ramped a driveway. We have ;looked into the recalls and its the same parts we are having trouble with on this truck and why it caused me to wreck. Hydro boost system, and the emergency brake system. The codes that I pulled from the NHTSA. The contact observed that the right front wheel bearing on the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd was damaged. The dealer replaced the right front hub assembly. After 2 years the failure recurred on both wheels. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 15000. The current mileage was 26000.
there has always been a knocking noise, that can be felt in the steering and brake pedal. the dealer replaced a shaft that connected to the steering sector. the fix corrected it for a while. the problem came back. i went back to the dealer and was told the part needed to be removed and greased every 15000 miles. i said ,why does it not have grease fittings? over the last 10 years i have talked to numerous people who have the same problem. i sent gm an e-mail about this problem, never got an answer. i do get letters from gm wanting me trade for a new one. why pay $40 to $50 thousand for a vehicle that the manufacturer wont stand behind? i have noticed that my 2000 silverado leans on the drivers side due to coil spring defect.iv'e seen other silverados on the road body styles between 99-02 that also leans on the drivers side.this is something that should be looked into as a recall . *tr

while driving front left wheel assy. separated from truck causing me to crash. truck was a total loss. *tr
i experienced excessive vibration in my 2001 chevrolet silverado 1/2 ton 4x4 after having my wheels rotated. after rebalancing did not correct the problem a closer examination of the wheel revealed that it was broken. a long crack had developed. my vehicle currently has about 177,000 miles. this first wheel failure occurred at about 170,000 miles. in may after having my wheels rotated i again experienced excessive vibration. closer investigation of the wheel revealed that i had a second wheel that had broken. i called chevrolet and was advised to take the wheel to a chevrolet dealer for an inspection and had a picture taken of the defect which was sent to chevrolet. my tire dealer also informed me that a similar situation with broken wheels had occurred with another customer who had 4 broken wheels on the same vehicle. *tr
