I currently own a 2008 vw beetle and it's an automatic. When first getting the car I could tell the transmission seemed not smooth at all. When driving through an intersection from a red light my car had trouble when pressing the gas. It had a pause. Then when going down the high way when I was changing lanes to go infront of someone I pressed the gas and my car jumps. This happens all the time. Not something that happens once and a while. It happens every time I drive my car. The dealership replaced the transmission at on 5,000 but the problem still happens! then going down the road in the pouring rain my windshield wipers stopped working. They had to replace the motor. When I went through a drive through I rolled down my window and it made a horrible grinding noise that I thought the window was going to shatter. They had to replace the window motor. Then the same exact thing happened to the passenger side front and back window. Both my head lights keep going through $20. 00 bulbs. They had to replace the fuses. On my convertible top the side covers stopped going in and out. They had to replace those. Then on my way to work all the lights for the what gear you were in blinking. Which caused me to have the car towed because it was running in emergency transmission mode. They had to replace something with that. Right after that was replaced going down the road my car made a grinding noise so I turned around to take it back and it was something with the fuel intake that they had to replace. The dash board lights go on and off. The dealership said they could not find anything wrong with that.
My vw beetle 2005, has a 2 to 3 second shift delay whether in manual or automatic. When pulling out in traffic or taking off from a light or downshifting to slow down the car acts like it's in neutral. The engine revs but the car takes anywhere from 2 to 3 seconds to respond. Sometimes it won't shift out of 4th gear and I have to pull over (in traffic that is going over 55) turn the car off and then turn it back on. I consider this very dangerous when cars are piling up behind me and ican 't get over to the side of the road to turn it off. I had my car towed to a certified vw repair shop over a 100 miles away because I knew it wouldn't make it. They informed me my transmission is gone. I need a new one. They can't rebuilt it. A new transmission is $4500. Not including labor. I got my car in January of this year. I have $8000. Invested in it already. My car is worthless. I am 60 years old. I have no steady income at this time and I can not afford to pay another $6000. I called Volkswagen of America and they informed me they will do nothing about it. My driver's side window is also acting up and they will pay for that, but really, big deal. I have heard, unfortunately too late, that vw's with my kind of transmission are having the same problems and I think vw of America should stand behind their car especially when they still have low miles. My car is now considered a throwaway car but I don't have that kind of money to throw away. This has hurt me deeply financially and all vw of America will offer me is a loyalty customer coupon towards a new car. If I could afford a new car I wouldn't have bought a used one.
Transmission valve body malfunctions and causes the card to shift harshly. This causes loss of control during acceleration and deceleration.
I purchased my vehicle from Volkswagen around August of 2008. My car began to show signs of transmission failure shortly after my check engine light came on, I took it to the dealer while under warranty and they stated it was nothing. It began to get worse but they assured me I just need to get my transmission serviced and I did. It began gradually from skipping gears to jumping into neutral and losing power while driving. The failure occurs very often now. I cannot drive my car for more than 15 minutes without being stranded on the side of the road for a short period. I noticed that as soon as the transmission warms up from driving, the transmission goes into neutral. I began doing some research into this problem and noticed that this is common problem with Volkswagen beetles transmission, which resulted in a recall. I have a 6 speed transmission and the same symptoms take place. We have looked for quotes on replacement of sensors, rebuilt transmissions, but we are still trying to figure out what it may be because transmission work is really expensive. Something needs to be done about this!!!.
The contact states the gear shift will not move from the park position. Due to the design the braking system is not equipped with any override feature that would allow the disengagement of the shift position. The dealer is willing to offer a free remedy however, they will not provide the towing service. Therefore, no repairs have been made.
Clutch suddenly and completely failed at 27,000 miles. Driven only by previous owner of two other vws. Have learned no replacement clutch is available. Was attempting to sell it since another car has already been purchased. This has presented a financial hardship. I am livid livid livid. No more vws for me ever.
Brake switch malfunction edon the 2000 ,Volkswagen, New Beetle caused the transmission to stick in park.
the car slams into gear when starting from a cold start. it was in the shop over a month, and it was given back to me with "we can find nothing mechanically wrong with it, it may buck a bit, but there are no safety hazards." live with it basically. vw themselves have been of no help whatsoever in resolving this issue. *nm
the clutch on 2002 beetle 1.8 turbo went out on my wife on i-40 in amarillo. the car would not accelerate and she was going 30 miles per hour in heavy traffic on the interstate. she was able to move across two lanes and exit the interstate without incident. the vw clutches in the 1.8 turbos seem to be having very early failure. the clutch was replaced for $1450.00 and not covered by warranty. i have requested to see the old parts. i have read that the new clutch and flywheel have different part numbers than original.*ak
transmission locks its self into park. you cannot release the car from park. dealer cannot replicate problem. will not fix te brake switch which has caused teh same problem in other cars. *ak
