after 8 years, the headlight lenses became so cloudy, the truck could not be safely driven at night. it was parked in a carport.
complete loss of steering. *tr
the frame is rotted in the rear next to leaf spring. there was a recall call on this year at one i was wondering if i could get this frame replaced. toyota should honor this frame recall on this vehicle.
september 29, 2014 toyota motors informed nhtsa of plans to conduct a voluntary recall of the toyota pre-runner pickup trucks. the problem is that the leaf spring is defective and could fracture due to corrosion and stress. i have a leaf spring that is not fractured or cracked but is making a lot of strange noises and my mechanic says the leaf spring on one side is defective. i have taken it to my dealer twice and they refuse to replace it because it is not cracked. i have called toyota customer service twice also and they refuse to rectify the problem. how long is it going to take toyota to deal with this recall or are they waiting for a few people to die. why can't they be proactive instead of reactive after people are injured.
Tl the contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that while his son was driving at 30 mph, the front passenger's side wheel detached from the vehicle without warning. Due to the failure, the passenger's side front end of the vehicle struck the pavement. The vehicle was towed to a private residence. The contact reached out to vann york Toyota (500 eastchester dr, high point, nc 27262) and was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to a lower ball joint failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
Tl the contact's daughter owns a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the check engine indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to auto zone where it was determined that the O2 sensor needed to be replaced. The contact's friend was repairing the vehicle and noticed rust on the bottom of the frame. As a result, the contact's friend was unable to tighten the sensor completely, which caused fumes to enter the cabin of the vehicle when driving. The contact called lou fusz Toyota (located at 10725 manchester rd, kirkwood, mo 63122, (314) 966-5404). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 136,000.
Takata recall had received recall letter but lost now they say there's no recall for my vehicle?.
On 12/05 I noticed something hanging from underneath my 2000 Toyota Tacoma pick up truck. When I got down to pull it out, I realized it was rust from my frame, that has completely rusted through. I called Toyota consumer services, spoke to a gentleman who was very rude, telling me that I had missed the warranty extension time limit and because I didn't register my new address with them, they wouldn't do anything. First, the truck was paid for when I moved. Second, it is up to them to notify me and this can be done via the registry of motor vehicles, as has been done in the past with another of our paid for vehicles. Third, I never received a notice that stated my warranty was extended do to rusted frames for 1995-2004 Tacoma's. Toyota recalled over 700,000 trucks, so clearly they are aware of the issue. There are hundreds of complaints on line and videos on youtube about this. This truck in in great shape and I planned on using it for at least another 100k miles. It has been maintained well and rides great. This is the 11th and last Toyota, I have owned. I am appalled and amazed that Toyota will not take care of this safety issue because of the age of a vehicle.
Frame rust perforation per Toyota 1995 through 2000 Toyota frame rust corrosion perforation warranty enhancement (customer support program) was conducted on my truck last year (September 2010). The local Toyota dealership inspected and said it was ok. Today they conducted another frame inspection and said the frame was perforated and would not pass the safety inspection. I asked to see a digital photograph of the frame damage and was told none were available. No offer was made to put the truck on the lift for me to see for myself. I drove home very carefully, pulled the truck in the garage and had a look, does not look safe to me. Appears the left front rear axle leaf spring mount / chassis frame could fail causing the axle to separate from the vehicle. Perhaps this is more serious than a "customer support program"!.
The truck has frame corrosion that makes the car illegal to drive. In 2010, it was recalled for this issue. I brought it in to a Toyota dealership in 2010 and 2013 for the warranty. Based on a letter I received from Toyota, Toyota was supposed to buy back the vehicle if corrosion was present or spray corrosive resistant compounds (crcs) at no cost to me. The dealership did neither. I was under the impression they sprayed crcs because that is what we discussed at the dealership. Turns out they did not spray and six months after the warranty ended the frame was deemed so corroded by an oil change mechanic at an independent business, I can no longer drive the vehicle. Toyota and the Toyota dealership will not address the letter they sent me and the fact they did not spray crcs as discussed. The vehicle is very unsafe, I did was I was told, and the dealership is negligent if following binary rules of the warranty--replace the vehicle or spray crcs. The dealership claims "they had no responsibility to do anything" but a letter I received from Toyota says differently. The vehicle was serviced regularly and ran well and has no issues but the frame makes the vehicle unsafe and inoperable. The frame of the vehicle is no collapsing as well. The frame is rotted through.
