While parking at a restaurant parking lot my brakes did not want to engage and ended up hitting a trash can at about 5 mph it just happened that one time. One fender had minor damages. Took the car to get serviced up and the brakes were replaced by the car dealership at no cost with the car under 8000 miles.

I own a 2006 Scion Xa. I have owned the vehicle since new bought oct 2005. My car has an inconsistent braking system. The brakes feels as if they have a gap of air that prevents them from stopping the car and the pedal jerks beneath my foot. I live in boston and the failure appears more often in cold and slush/snow conditions. The brakes are frightening because they have failed at several pedestrian crosswalks and under "needed" or accident prevention circumstances. I had the brakes checked at the local woburn Toyota dealer and was told they were fine. Upon a second maintenance service the same Toyota dealer told me it was due to "hot spots". I complained to Toyota because the vehicle was under factory warranty. Even though the vehicle at the time has less than 20k miles, they stated that it was my fault. I argued my point on the phone with no response. I filed an e-mail complaint through Toyotas customer survey and then for safety reasons and concern of the well being of my children and myself, I did as suggested by the dealer and replaced the rotors and brake pads. By the next winter of 2008 my vehicle braking systems heartbreakingly enough had the exact same brake system failure. This has been a continued problem since owning this vehicle. The date listed below is the most recent incident however there have been no less than 20 other occurrences. I will always try to test my brakes to make sure they are still working before leaving my driveway in bad weather conditions.

My daughter was involved in an auto accident involving her 2005 Toyota Scion Xa. She applied brakes as she was coming to a stop light and the brake did not work. She tried again and the car kept going. She then tried to "pump" the brake to no avail. The result was that she hit the car in front of her totaling her car. In addition to the brakes not working, the driver seatbelt did not "lock".

I have noticed the same brake issue with my 2005 scion (Toyota) xa at least twice, as reported on the news this morning about the Toyota prius. I was approaching a red light @ sunrise blvd and folsom blvd. And applied the brakes as I was going over a couple of sets of train tracks. The vehicle felt like I was propelled forward when I hit the tracks instead of slowing down. It lasted only a second but scared the heck out of me! I thought I was going to rear end the vehicle in front of me. I wrote it off like it was just my imagination or something till I saw the news. Now my wife is driving the vehicle and I warned her to make sure she applies the brakes before any train tracks, and told her I would report it. I am worried about her safety. Does this vehicle have the same braking system or flaw? please investigate and advise.

Car: 2005 Scion Tc purchased: mcgee Toyota of hanover, MA in may 2007. -emergency brake failing 2 weeks after purchase, which caused an accident. -the dealership misdiagnosing the wheel bearing (2-3 times, finally fixing it). -we've been to mcgee Toyota probably 5+ times now, and woburn Toyota twice, all for problems with a 2005 Scion Tc. One of the other issues was when my wife bought the car, she bought a Toyota extended warranty. We noticed a few weeks after purchase that the weather stripping was dry-rotting, and woburn Toyota said they wouldn't replace it since it wasn't a factory windshield. We were originally told by mcgee Toyota that we could take this car to any Toyota dealership and the warranty would be valid. Why were we not told by mcgee Toyota when she bought the car, that the windshield had been replaced? mr murphy said he would do anything in his power to make us happy. Mr murphy said he would replace all four tires on the car (because we also noticed there were 3 different tires on the car), as well as replace the windshield for us. We picked the car up yesterday, to find her seats leaned back (it looked like some teenage kids just got done joy-riding), two bubbles in the middle of the new(another aftermarket windshield, which is not covered under warranty ? again!) windshield, a loud squeal coming from the engine when revved, and the clutch making a very loud and noticeable squeak when depressed. It seems that when we bring the car in for something, we leave with 2-3 more problems. When addressed by a manager, it comes to no avail. I attempted to talk with a manager about those issues, and when I refused to shake his hand, we were asked to leave! there are many more issues with this car, which are too many to list in this initial complaint.

I own a 2005 Scion Xa model and when driving on dirt roads that are dry or wet from rain the brake system fails when stopping. As applying the brakes coming to a stop sign and speed of 20mph, the brake antilock , I think? makes a release noise and the pedal in the max hole position the car keeps moving and into the intersection I am stopping at. The brakes return to normal while coming on to the asphalt road I am crossing. I've learned to be very careful when coming to stop on dirt road and have found I can not approach the stop signs at speeds over 10mph for the last 50 feet to stop position. It does this on dry dirt roads and wet dirt roads sometimes on asphalt.
