I was driving normally on the road and all of a sudden the check engine lights, automatic collision notification and swerving alarm all come on at the same time. Had no reason to. I stopped the car shut it of and on and all left except the check engine light.
The automatic emergency braking (aeb) and radar system is faulty which makes the vehicle suddenly brakes on it's own. My daughter reported that the alert light began coming on about a week ago. Then the yesterday (9/26/2021) the vehicle suddenly braked on its own while she was driving. She added that there was no vehicle or object in front of the vehicle at the time of the self-braking. This is a serious safety concern. After research into this matter, I have learned that both Nissan and the national highway traffic safety administration are aware of the situation but have yet to issue a recall for the faulty aeb in a number of their models.
Automatic emergency braking (aeb) system warning light (if so equipped) I purchased my 2018 Nissan Kicks in Feb of 2019, and have been experiencing issues with the warning light that looks like two cars colliding randomly appearing along with a message "unavailable front radar obstruction. " these warning lights can come on at any given time during the time in which the vehicle is driven, and began shortly after purchase of the vehicle. Weather conditions, etc have no effect on this issue. The warning light/message has come on when it's sunny. It can come on when changing lanes, and not even having a vehicle directly in front of you. I monitored the behavior for quite awhile in order to confirm this was an actual defect. My vehicle is garaged most of the time, and there has been no damage to it whatsoever. After further research, I checked the owners manual then realized the warning light that I have been seeing is actually the automatic emergency braking (aeb) system warning light. The message that appears on the dash indicates a front radar obstruction, or impact near the front of the car as well. These may be two separate issues, but they occur at the same time everytime. I always see the aeb light, and the front radar obstruction warning simultaneously. I have also had problems with the blind spot warning lights randomly appearing, and my back up cam glitching out/freezing in the process of backing up.
I took my car in for service again for the 9th or more time due to the sonar alerts activating without reason. The aeb would alert and chime for no reason as well as the forward collision warning for no reason. The car also chimed consistently when backing up and stalled when nothing was behind me or in the vicinity for this alert to go on. This has been a constant issue with this car. I purchased it brand new on Feb 29, 2020 and I believe they sold me a lemon. I took my car to vacaville Nissan on Feb 3rd, 2022 to service advisor [xxx] who has been the advisor throughout. [xxx] notified me Feb 3rd, 2022 that unfortunately when they ran diagnostic, their are issues with the car and he said there are over 12k red Nissan Kicks with the same issue. [xxx] told me, it is under engineering review as their is nothing available yet to fix it. [xxx] said, they have done all they could and he would contact me in a month when something will hopefully be available. This is unfair, I am driving a vehicle that is unsafe and unpredictable. I bought my new 2020 in February and I have already had to have it serviced 7 or more times, due to electrical issues. The automatic electrical braking system comes on, even though nothing is in front of me when I am driving, also, the collision alert comes on as well during the same time, even though no cars are in front me to warrant a possible collision. I am very nervous driving my car. I dont know what else to do. Nissan has ran diagnostics and found the issues with sonar and other possibilities, they replaced the system and while it ran ok for a while, it is currently experiencing the same electrical issues. I have not been able to take it in again because I have a bad knee. I need help, I truly believe I was sold a lemon!.
I am the owner of the vehicle but my daughter was the driver and I am making the complaint on her behalf but she can provide additional details. The vehicle began making a grinding sound at times that sounds similar to the anti-lock braking. Then on oct 29 the vehicle locked down the brakes as she was pulling into the parking lot at work when there was not a collision imminent. She skidded into the curb damaging her front driver side wheel. We took the vehicle to the dick smith Nissan dealer in lexington SC but they told us they couldn't reproduce the failure and recommended we bring it back if it happened again. We went to pick up the vehicle but before leaving with the car I drove the car around the parking lot and the forward collision light came on in under a minute. They immediately took the car back to service to read the code and asked if we could leave the vehicle with them. They called back after a day or two and said they have no repair and recommended we contact Nissan consumer affairs and start a case. We started a case on 11/5/2021 and the case number is 45086982.
Sensor that states there has been a malfunction in the front braking system comes on randomly. The aeb system also stops the car at random times when nothing is in the road, good weather, sometimes going 75mph on the highway. Same thing has also happened driving in a parking garage or down a main road. I have also been in cruise control on the highway and this braking system comes on. I thought it was an isolated incident but it has happened at least 6 times. The date below only reflects the most recent incident.
*engine or transmission failure - 27,165 current mileage *safety risk - during moderate traffic conditions , vehicle was traveling approximtely 45 miles per hour, when it suddenly be gain to slow down. By the vehicle slowing in the manner that it did, could have caused the traffic following the vehicle to come to an abrupt stop resulting in a rear end collision. * the vehicle is currently at the larry miller Nissan for inspection and diagnostics * check engine light illuminated seconds before the vehicle stalled there were no other indicators of distress such as burning smells or leaking fluids prior to the incident.
Car will shut off on its own when sitting at a red light will get a message showing the word malfunction, will restart after several attempts of pressing the start button. Has been taken to the dealer and reported and documented on my service receipt but they could not duplicate the problem and stated car was at specs. This has now happened 4 times in the last 2 weeks.
