3. 5 l engine has problems with oil cooling pipe/hose. It leaks oil every 4 to 5 years. Danger is emptying the motor oil without notice. One can easily burn the engine if gone unnoticed. And get stranded anywhere without warning.
2020 had to replace transmission at 90,000 miles. In sept. 2021 - window seals are melting all over the windows. Will have to get them all replaced as a driving hazzard to even see out the windows. Now the tinting is coming off from the windows sticking.
After my previous complaint of experiencing transmission shudders, the car became progressively worse. I had it taken to the local dealer, where they informed me that the transmission had failed. This car has only 136,000 miles, which is not many for the quality usually associated with the Lexus brand. They claim to have no reason for the failure, but are charging me almost $5,700 to replace it. I asked Lexus corporate to assist me with this repair, due to the known transmission issues on many Rx models, but they declined. The vehicle almost died on me in the middle of the highway on several occasions while experiencing these transmission shudders, which could have led to a bad accident. I think this is ridiculous and shows poor quality in their manufacturing.
Transmission wouldnt shift all of the sudden on the high way no prior mechanical issues was t boned and broke my leg abs and trac off lights mechanic says total transmission failure 121000 miles and this is the second owner of this vehicle.
Vehicle was parked with transmission in park and emergency brake engaged. While unattended the vehicle started moving forward slowly, I (the driver) jumped into front seat to apply the foot brake and pedal went to floor (no brakes!) vehicle could not be stopped and ran in to the wall of my garage.
I was out of town I was driving, nothing was wrong with my Rx at all. It's a 2002 Lexus Rx 300, then all of the sudden I go to take off at the stoplight and it was hesitating to take off. My transmission is now completely gone. No warning at all. If I take my vehicle over 35 mph is jerks. Transmission slips at stop lights, (with no incline). 115000 miles, and the tranny goes out. I do believe it has been replaced before I purchased the car as well. Great job Lexus, not. I thought going with a Lexus I would have a quality vehicle. Man was I wrong.
The contact owns a 2002 Lexus Rx. The contact stated that the transmission gears would become stuck. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was advised that the transmission would need replacing. The vehicle was not under recall. The manufacturer was contacted who stated that they would contact the dealer for more information on the failure before making a decision if they could assist. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000.
Transmission started making a whining sound at certain speeds about a year and a half earlier. Toyota dealer confirmed odd noise from transmission, but said there was nothing they could do apart from removing transmission. I was in a nearby state when the tranny finally went out - 1st gear still works and sometimes 2nd gear, but 3rd, 4th and reverse all went out when I was accelerating onto the highway - a loud bang and then it revved up like it was in neutral even though it was in drive. I'm concerned this was a design flaw, but Lexus does not agree and has offered no compensation up to this point. They said if I want to take it further I need the Toyota dealer to confirm the tranny is out. I said that would not be difficult and am in the process of doing that now. I am curious how some people have gotten Lexus to pay a portion of their bill. I ended up renting a uhaul and trailer to get it home.
: the contact stated while attempting to place the vehicle into the drive gear the automatic transmission control module failed. Neither the drive nor reverse gear could be engaged. The vehicle was unable to move and was towed to the dealership. Upon inspection, the dealership discovered metal particles in the transmission oil. The diagnosis indentified that the transmission was lubricated with metal shavings and other contaminants therefore the entire transmission system would need to be replaced.
While driving car lost power would not go forward. Never gave me any warning no check engine light nothing! made it home at 5 mph. Transmission went out with no warning! $3600 to fix at aamco, seems like they see this problem often in the Rx300 models 1999-2003 mine is a 2000. Called Lexus but offered no help! very unhappy Lexus owner.
