I bought this Altima brand new in 2003 and it is paid off. It has been a pretty good car up until the last 2years. It is burning alot of oil and it isnt leaking or smoking at all. I dont know where it is going. I put in a quart of oil every week and half. I also had the catalytic converter replace last year and it cost me 900.00. I really liked this car and cant afford to buy a new one at the moment. There has got to be a defect in the engine to cause this problem. Does any body have any ideas on how we can get Nissan to fix this problem? I will never buy another Nissan if they dont fix this as long as I live.
Yes, while driving down atlanta highway I was going around 55 mph then all of a sudden saw smoke was coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. When I pulled over flames was coming from the front right side and spread it to the center of the front hood, then spread it to the front seat and passenger side seat of the vehicle. I didn’t call 911 and fire services responded and put the fire out. According to the montgomery police department, delano police support center vehicle was not involved in any type of car accident.
The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 - 70 mph, the vehicle began emitting white smoke coming from the rear end of the vehicle. The contact pulled to the side of the road and allowed the vehicle to cool off and added oil to the engine and the smoke subsided. The contact became aware of oil around the bumper of the vehicle. The contact was able to continue to drive the vehicle however, oil had to be added often for the vehicle to operate as intended. The dealer was contacted to schedule an appointment however, the vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed there was no recall or warranty coverage on the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.
design flaw with engine causes excessive oil consumption. the burning oil then makes the converter start to fall apart and be sucked into the engine. this made the engine stall in heavy traffic on the highway. numerous complaints on this flaw throughout the internet. contacted nissan i they said to bad. dealer strongly suggested that i sell the car since it would only get worse due to this issue. *tr
Misfire. Not fixed yet, Engine running rough upon start... almost at a stall. Yet doesn't happen all the time. The RPM gauge fluctuated once. Check engine light comes on. The car does not run like it used to. Mechanics don't know what to do. Replaced spark plugs, flushed system, moved around the sensors, still came up with same error code. still not fixed. . Very frustrating
My 2003 Nissan Altima, how I love thee.....yeah right...I purchased it in 2005 with 30,000 miles on it, and it had been a pretty good car until last year. It began with the "check engine" light, which lead me to buy a couple of sensors; cam shaft and the crank sensor, it worked for a little while, then came the rough idling and stalling , and despite changing the sensors, the check engine light still comes on. Now, to top it off, I am also having problems getting it started, cranking for a long time ..and now, I have to go to the shop tomorrow and find out whether I am going to need a new engine put in (apparently there is radiator leak into the cylinder head). Wish me luck!
tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan altima. the contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the vehicle began to have a loud knocking noise that was heard from the front of the vehicle. in addition, black smoke was observed coming from the hood of the vehicle as the check engine warning light illuminated. no flames were visible. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the piston had fractured and the engine failed and needed to be replaced. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 06v223000 (engine and engine cooling). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
my vehicle stalls when driving on the highway. and the heat doesn't work at all, when the weather conditions are bad, i can't see out the window.*ak
tl*the contact owns a 2003 nissan altima. in 2003, the vehicle began jerking and would come to a complete stop without warning. the vehicle was taken to two dealers and the radiator and crank sensor were replaced. the manufacturer was notified and a report was taken. the investigation concluded that the vehicle could not be replaced under the lemon law because the time had expired. the speed and powertrain were unknown. the current mileage was 55,000 and failure mileage was 7,435. updated 02/12/08. *lj the consumer stated the vehicle stalls and then shoots forward. updated 02/12/08 *tr
while driving at 65 mph, vehicle stalls without warning, vehicle is unable to re-start right away leaving driver in eminent danger of been rear ended by on coming traffic. no codes or lights turn on dashboard signaling a malfunction of vehicle. after letting the vehicle cool off for about five to ten minutes it re-starts again. vehicle was taken to dealer who was unable to diagnose failure because no lights are coming up on the dashboard and when hooked to a scanner no failure codes were produced. manufacturer was made aware of failure but offered no assistance because vehicle was "repaired" under the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 03v455000( component: engine and engine cooling ) . this recall calls for cam, crank and variable timing sensors to be replaced, however only the crank sensor was replaced. failure mileage was 43000 when vehicle was first taken in for recall but it is currently failing again at 160,000 miles with above symptoms and manufacturer won't offer assistance. they have advice to take it to a dealer again and they will be able to keep replacing parts until problem is "found". due to lack of codes their technicians will have to "guess" what the problem is. all this at my own expense of diagnosis, parts and labor. in september of 2011 a dealer performed a re-program of the main computer as part of another recall from manufacturer concerning vehicles stalling. this re-program of the main computer did not fix anything and right after i took vehicle out of the dealer it started stalling again. this vehicle keeps stalling at high speeds (65mp), there are no codes given out and manufacturer offers no assistance. afraid i am going to get seriously injured as the problem continues but can't figure out what's wrong with the car. *tr
