The steering wheel clockspring ribbon was worn down in the middle, resulting in an open circuit of the srs. The wear is between the ribbon and inside wall of the container that houses the ribbon. It appears to be a designing flaw or manufacturing defect. The wear was discovered by tearing down the clockspring unit. Airbag light on the dashboard was lit in November 2023. Replaced the clockspring unit on 2/17/2024. Without fixing the problem, the airbag on the steering wheel does not function when needed.
My mother was in an accident that cost her life. The black box on the car says that there was a malfunction in the power steering that caused the car to pull sharply to the left. This caused her to hit a concrete median at highway speeds where her airbag failed to deploy. Her spine broke in 4 places and suffered 7 broken ribs.
My car (Toyota Camry) was struck in the driver's side door and back passenger door by another car who was traveling at a high rate of speed. The accident resulted in damage to the doors and to the frame of the car. I suffered neck and head injury due to the accident. The side curtain air bag did not deploy. The car was inspected by the owner/manager of the auto body repair shop and it was his opinion that given the severity of the accident that the air bag should have deployed. Due to the frame damage and other damage the car is considered by the insurance company to be a total loss.
I've been into automobile accidents and the passenger airbag never deployed. Few years back I took my vehicle for the sticky dashboard recall, Toyota replaced it. Few years later the dashboard is sticky and shiny worst than the first time, I called Toyota to get it replaced free of charge and they told me that is not the responsibility and denied to fix the replaced sticky dashboard. I almost have gotten in accidents do to the shiny glare from the dashboard.
I was driving behind a box truck and they made a abrupt stop so I had to as well and I rear ended the truck my brake peddle went all the way to the floor none of my airbags went off not one.
