This is a second repair for a failed thermostat housing/water pump on this vehicle. The first time, januaary 2019, the thermostat housing and related seals were replaced. This time the thermostat housing and water pump were both replaced.
Engine stalled while moving on the left-hand turn lane. Battery and engine lights came on and stayed on. The car had power but it could not start. The vehicle was towed to the vw dealer. Diagnosis: burned fuel pump fuse (blue 15a). Fuse replaced and the car is running.
2010 vw Golf tdi - engine died after accelerating while entering a highway from a parking lot. I had to coast back into the parking lot at a dangerously slow speed. If there had been oncoming traffic it could likely have led to an accident. The car did restart after parking and turning the ignition off and back on. I did not lose power to any of the electronics, only to the engine. The tachometer went to zero and the accelerator was unresponsive. The car currently has approx. 34k miles on it.
It's stuck at the garage and VW have been working on it for 3 weeks and are no further forward. Both the electric handbrake and the auto function do not work as they should - it's a really odd problem, and apparently its not the only Golf with the same problem in the garage. Is this more of a common issue on the mark 8 Golfs, and could it be the first re-call?
I have never driven a vehicle with drive assist/lane assist features for extended periods of time before I bought my Golf in March of 2020, new from the dealership. I became acquainted with the feature almost immediately as it is always ON by default - the first time the feature had a glitch was within a month of driving my car. I was on the highway, going 100 kmh, passing a long-haul van and suddenly out of nowhere the drive assist jarred my vehicle out of the lane I was in, I had to forcefully hold the wheel to steer back in my lane. I had no idea what just happened, I was alone and quite shaken in my vehicle and couldn't make sense of the situation.A few months later, a similar "freak" took over/happened. This time however I had a good clue as to what was triggering the lane assist to behave erratically, such as during a rainy drive, rots with water formed on the road and the vehicle was reacting to the water rots which formed glistening lines in the middle of the road, so my car decided I ought to drive in the incoming lane and proceeded to do just that. I was lucky there was no on-coming traffic and avoided a possible head-on collision. The next time a similar occurrence happened was with the shadow of electrical wire running along a county road, the vehicle had no other reference lane markers so it picked up the shadow and again steered my vehicle in the oncoming traffic, and this time I nearly hit a passenger vehicle.I am now asking the dealership to deactivate the feature and escalate the matter to VW Engineering team to recognize the danger of the glitch. I am told however that the only thing they can do is to check for software updates and see if there is calibration to be done... and then nothing... And to top the sundae, I just got a rock in my windshield last week that resulted in a growing crack (at the bottom and not in the camera sensing path but still... a problem that VW will point out as a flaw and they cannot investigate my sensors because of the break to the glass...)
Difficult to drive in 35 degrees Celcius with no aircon.
I drove my brand spanking’ new GTI base model off the lot. After 1 week I noticed a decent rattle at startup, and whenever the car was idling without pushing clutch pedal. The rattle stopped when I pushed the clutch, started when I released the clutch. The noise level was sometimes quieter and sometimes louder. When I showed off my new car, the engine sounded like crap. The rattle followed the engine rpm. Driving, there was no performance impact. Dealer drained the fluid and there was fine metal in it. Very bad. They suspected the input shaft had something loose or moving around, but hard to tell without ripping everything apart. They ordered me a “new” (remanufactured?) transmission and replaced it under warranty. Now it’s all good, although my brand new car doesn’t have the original transmission. :(I’d have asked for them to buy it back, but they don’t have any more manuals coming this year. Otherwise the car is super fun!
Tl- takata recall- the contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Golf. The contact stated that the recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 16v078000 was received on April. After contacting the dealer and the manufacturer on multiple occasions, the contact was informed that the parts( air bags) needed for the recall remedy were still not available and no estimated time for receiving the parts could be provided. The car idles rough during initial cold start up, intermittently hesitates during acceleration and feels like it misfires during cruising. My dealer found that the ignition timing was retarded by 5º and told me to use better gas, citing a vw field service action (https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2020/mc-10176770-0001. Pdf). The problem persisted after they treated the fuel. The car has never thrown a code causing the check engine light to turn on, and so the dealer has declined to investigate further. My records show the car was only filled with premium fuel, using vw recommended brands (bp, exxon, mobil, shell) in the 2,000 miles prior to the service appointment and was only filled with regular fuel twice (due to the colonial pipeline shutdown) since the car was delivered new from the dealer.
