i leased a 07 rabbit and after about 12k miles my rear brakes started making weird scratching sounds. and it eventually stopped but it came back two months later and i brought it to my dealership (donaldsons vw and subaru) and they told me that i let my brakes wear out.. which when i took off the tire and checked there was still more then 50% pad left. i knew this because i had bought new ones and i was going to change it myself. so due to this they said i messed up my rotors were broken too. so i ended up being charged about a 500 dollars to be fixed. currently, this is happening again to the same part of my car i hear a loud scratching sound and i checked to see my brakes and there is way more then 50% of my padding left.. i've been looking it up online and there is all these complaints about how the emergency brake is not adjusted right on any of the 06-09 model vw's. i feel this is in need of a recall due to the fact that it can do some serious damage to the car. i feel as if when i brake now i have to do it just so slightly or i might break something and end up not being able to stop. *tr
new continental tires on new car were wearing oddly. i had car inspected for problems and alignment and it was found not the fault of the car nor myself. the tires 205-55-16 91h were reported to me as manufacture defect. they ware in small spots causing the rubber to wear to cord. very difficult for consumer to see if tire is not in just the right spot to happen to notice. this could lead to a blow out and accident. the dealers fot the tire and the manufacturer have refused to address this issue. the distributors say is a manufacture defect but hard for them to be reimbursed so they don't want to deal with it. 2 of my 4 tires have this. *tr
frequent near stalls of my 2007 rabbit 2.5 automatic. this is my 2nd report to you and advised by the orlando sentinel reporter . the car's rpm drops about 1000 rpm on normal acceleration for about 4-6 seconds, never shutting off but just sitting there. this has occurred since taking the lease car in 08, but the dealership refuses to acknowledge the defect. numerous similar complaints have been filed with edmunds and no action has been taken. this is a very dangerous condition if turning in front of an oncoming line of traffic, and i want it fixed, but also acknowledged by vw. an orlando vw technician told me it also happened in one of their new c model deluxe vw's a month ago. this drop off of power happens almost every time the car is driven. i will advise the orlando sentinel's reporter i have contacted you again. thank you. updated 01/18/11. *jb *tr updated 04/13/11

i own a 2009 vw rabbit. about a year after owning it, i started noticing a moldy smell in the car every time i turned on the air conditioner and/or the heat. i took the car into the dealer and they said there was mold in the air conditioning unit and they would clean it. when i picked it up, i asked what was the problem, and they said i need to turn off the defroster/air conditioner a few minutes before turning off the car so any moisture drains out. in essence, there is no cure, just a fix. i wasn't happy with the response. when i entered my car to leave, it smelled from some perfume they used to mask the mold smell. i am allergic to mold and mildew and have a variety of allergies. i had to leave the car windows open for a week to get rid of that odor. now that it's fall, the weather is cooler and i'm using the heater. although i haven't noticed the mold smell yet, i'm noticing headaches and sinus problems since i've been driving with the heater. i've driven american cars for 45 cars and never experienced this problem. i like the car otherwise, but cannot tolerate this problem. why can't it be fixed permanently? i noticed complaints about the problem going back to at least 2002. *tr

i want to inform you, that there may be a defect in the first generation tpms valve adapters used in the 2009 vw rabbit, and other similar vehicles. in cold weather, part of these valves can become brittle and snap. this is due to the fact that the aluminum used in these valve stems corrodes over a short period of time, causing the valve itself to weaken. over time, this has the potential to cause a situation that may eventually cause all the air to escape the tire suddenly - something this system is designed to prevent. in addition to cold weather, in the northeastern united states, where sand/salt are heavily used to de-ice the roads, this may speed up the corrosion of the valve. i cannot in good conscience, and for my own safety, install these same potentially faulty valves at $60/ea back on the tire. i fixed the problem, by installing a regular valve stem in it's place for $5 including labor, which solved the issue. i had this done on all four tires, removing the faulty valve stems completely, and replacing them with standard stems that will not corrode, and break. the valve failed completely when the tpms light came on in my vehicle, and i went to check one of the tires to make sure it was full with air. when removing the air gauge, the valve snapped, causing all the air to rush out of the tire. the cost of replacing these valves is prohibitive. they cost $60 each, and you need to replace all four valves at once - due to tire rotations, you would never be able to tell which tire had the new valve if you replaced only one. that's $250 each time to replace the valves, which presents a unreasonable, and unnecessary burden to the average working person. *tr
i own a 2007 volkswagen rabbit. about 4 months after i got it, it started stalling. only when my car is idling. it also sputters and is not running smoothly. recently i started hearing a knocking noise under my hood. i've taken it into the dealership over and over and they send me home, saying they cant replicate the problem. the knocking happens on a regular basis, the stalling randomly happens, sometime i can go weeks without my car stalling, other times its only a few days. they've done nothing to fix this problem, just send me on my way. i need answers, and this problem to be fixed. *tr
