VW design fault that's known world wide water in air filter box 2017 (Touareg TDI Adventure). VW denies there is a problem even though they were taken to court in China for this problem and found guilty which VW when they admitted they did the wrong thing. But outside China, they are still claiming there is nothing to see here. A class action is under way in USA which is leaving Australian customers with no fix. My car is one of them, with the same story as the rest. Guess what - it also fails to drain, and now we have a real disaster ahead with water in the turbo... and the motor? Boom, no motor.VW says there's nothing to see here. Australia needs a class action against VW sooner rater than later.
Same as mentioned in the article [ http://www.vwproblems.com/news/2018/touareg-wet-air-filter-shut-down-engine/ ]Car was parking on the driveway last night along with my wife's 2013 MDX. There was heavy rain in the early morning. My wife's 2013 MDX drove away like a charm. My 2017 Toureg was shaking and then stalled. Stupid dealership said my car was in water... what the f***.
This is a design issue, water flow from the headlight and is funneled in the air intake and sucked in a vacuum.VW was "shamed" in China due this potentially dangerous design flaw, resulting in a recall and a fix, from what I could find online. I, like all other Touareg owners, want The "PART" used for the fix so we can drive our cars in the rain.
My wife along with grandson was traveling out of town when check engine light came on and RPM's dropped. They were stranded until I could get there. Called Volkswagen assistance and they had rollback pick it up to deliver to Volkswagen dealership. They would only cover to nearest dealer which was Tallahassee FL. I had previously called that dealership a number of times and lost a half a day. I ended up paying the towing company the difference to deliver car closer to home in Valdosta GA.There they found water in air filter compartment, filter had broken up into pieces so water and trash sucked into engine intake causing damage. To the extent we don't know at this time.Sure hope Volkswagen is going to cover repairs. It is still under warranty.
The new VW TOUAREG has a radar issue that slams on the emergency brakes for no reason. VW are in denial even though two people I know have had similar problems with new VWs. There is also a class action in the US commencing.
This is my 5th Touareg (yep five). I have not previously experienced this problem on the prior four I have had. Clearly though this is a well documented issue on the forums http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f44/new-technical-bulletin-issued-for-steering-wheel-shake-191057.html I am disappointed to have become one of the ones with this problem. It is going to service tomorrow and I'll update when there is a solution. It seems there is a TSB on this, TB 48 15 01 (was issued on 01/13/15) from almost two years ago so this shouldn't be an issue on a 2017 IMO...
gps map update costs over $400 for a car only 3 years oldI CANNOT BELIEVE VW is wants to charge me over $400 PLUS THE COST to download and install for a simple GPS map update for a 2015 Touareg TDI!!! Shame on you AGAIN VW.............My warning to ANYBODY purchasing a VW not to depend on the GPS.
I mainly drive highway and have over 3 million miles logged of driving experience. I've NEVER had brake pads let alone rotors due at 15,000 mile! My last vehicle was a 2013 VW Passat TDi which I loved and I had 66,000 miles on it's original brakes and still had plenty of pads left!!
This Touareg is the best vehicle AWD system I've ever encountered...in snow. On dry pavement, it binds on hard turns, lurches when turning into a drive when giving it gas, you'll sometimes have some resistance which requires more throttle but it acts like something is holding back when all of a sudden the throttle engages! On going hesitation VW says is maybe due to a poor grade of gas... bullshit! I always buy premium and I 95% of the time buy it at Costco which is very good on filter changes and pump maintenance.
I purchased this car only 3 months ago. It was Volkswagen "Certified" and I purchased an additional 2 years of "bumper to bumper" Volkswagen Warranty. We got a little rain here in Florida one week and I was simply driving the car around for normal, light use. Apparently, that was enough to cause water to be ingested into the air filter, then the engine, causing major and very expensive damage. I paid the bill, but subsequently researched similar sounding complaints and I learned that there is actually a recall in China for this exact same issue. As it turns out, there is a faulty design related to how water is drained and if the tubes get clogged water backs up into the filter and then is ingested into the engine. When this happens, big trouble! Volkswagen should be ashamed of not acknowledging this problem and fixing it worldwide, vs just in China. They are actually benefiting from it financially as people like me are sucked unknowingly into purchasing their vehicles and then getting stuck with huge repair bills.
