🇺🇸 hyundai azera 2019 [Other] Defect age: 3 Mileage: 50000

This noise is a known issue on Hyundai 3.3 and 3.5 liter V6 engines, multiple models and years. It is a loud clatter on starting the engine that lasts for several seconds, and then quiets down. Have read multiple theories online as to cause. One is that the oil drains out of the vertically-mounted filter, causing a lack of oil to the top of the engine during startup. Another is that it is caused by the camshaft "phaser" (basically a sophisticated timing chain sprocket attached to the camshafts) on the intake sides. Another is a defective/worn timing chain tensioner. The dealer says there is a Bulletin from Hyundai that the first step in addressing the noise should be making sure that only a Hyundai oil filter is used on the car, and using 5W-20 oil instead of the 5W-30 recommended in the owner's manual. That did not solve the noise issue with my car. The dealer said that the noise in my car is not sufficiently loud enough to justify replacing the timing chain tensioner. Haven't read any reports of significant failure online due to this issue, but it doesn't sound good. Guess if I wanted an engine that doesn't sound like a rattling piece of junk, I shouldn't have purchased a Hyundai. The fact that they had to recall 1.7 million 2.0L and 2.4L engines due to an entirely preventable manufacturing defect says volumes about their quality control.

Hyundai said this is normal ????? $30,000 car and if not cleaned off each week will do paint damage over time. Dealer has Pic's said that there is nothing the can do because Hyundai said nothing is wrong. Sales Manager took pic's car has been to the Dealer 3 times ( Hill Top Hyundai Richmond ) as the miles go up it is getting harder to deal with. I am dealing with the ABR on this issue. This is a new 20015 Hyundai Azra ( Flag Ship ) Hyundai. High test fuel only has ever been put in the fuel tank by me. Dealer has now not even called me back about this and they have said the would. Buyer's Beware.

🇺🇸 hyundai azera 2014 [Transmission] Mileage: 25000

Hyundai needs to come up with a solution. Several people have ridden in the car and with my not saying a word they all say what in the heck is wrong with this thing? It is going to give Hyundai a bad reputation if nothing is done. Had this happened on a test drive I would not have purchased this car. Great car otherwise, my first Azera (2006) was great so went back to the well for another one but do not like this problem. With all the computer generated fixes, seems like they could re-program or change the software a slight amount to solve the problem. If it would downshift and stay there until the top of the hill was reached, problem solved, but it downshifts, upshifts, downshifts, and keeps this up until the top is reached. Problem is worse with cruise on, needs to downshift and stay there until engine and transmission can upshift and hold that speed instead of surging up and down. Thought this was a problem with the cruise control but dealer says not so, but they have no solution. Hope a fix comes about, otherwise, Hello Avalon!!!Update from Apr 16, 2015: Finally came across a solution for the continuous shifting on hills when in cruise. I discovered that at the first shift down of the transmission simply move the shift lever to the side to the manual position. My car goes to 5th gear when the manual shift is selected so I just manually upshift to 6th and the continuous shifting stops. If it is hilly I just leave it in 6th in the manual position, car performs great. Only thing one has to remember if you slow down until the car down shifts on its own it will stay in the lower gear while in manual unless you upshift it manually or just pop the lever back to the right in the drive position. If you forget and stop the car will remain in first gear unless you manually up shift or go back into drive.I also had a complaint about the resume feature of the cruise control,it would down shift and accelerate very fast no matter how much speed you needed to regain. This problem was also solved by shifting to manual, bumping up to 6th gear then hitting resume, car picks up speed gradually instead of taking off like a bullet. After car gets to your cruise speed shift the lever back to the right to drive. I still feel this is a software problem in the computer that controls the transmission/ engine setup that could be solved by Hyundai but I am much happier now that I figured out how to get around these two problems.

Especially when we are using cruise control, the transmission continuously shifts up and down and causes a pulsing sensation. The Hyundai dealer where we bought the vehicle says this is normal for this model. We don't believe it is normal. It is very annoying to us! Any other Azera owners experiencing this?

Excess black carbon coming from exhaust pipes is getting all over the rear bumper which is white. Dealer says this is normal for a GDI engine (which I don't believe ...my guess is too much fuel being used causing the black carbon.). On my last oil change at 10,000 the oil was totally black like I hadn't changed oil for 50,000 miles. Had to flush the oil system and put fresh oil and filter. Has anyone else experienced this problem?AGAIN THE DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL. Aaahhh!

It was supposed to give 29 miles to a gal. It only gives 19-21 (open highway).

No matter how I try, I can not get better than 16.6 mpg city and 22.5 Hwy. Sounds like the Kia Soul Law Suite to me. This is the third Hyundai I have owned and all the other ones met or exceeded the mileages advertised. Something definitely wrong with this model.

I have owned the Hyundai Azera for more than 1 year now and have added 14K miles on mountain roads of east Tennessee. While it is a well-rounded car, the steering-wheel is rather badly designed and a safety concern. The turning radius is great. But it takes a VERY significant effort of hand to turn it. For small steering movement the car does not steer at all. Most annoyingly, the steering stubbornly returns and "locks" in the central location at high speeds. The roads never are really straight, there may be cross-winds, and occasionally the wheel-balance is a bit off. In any of these scenarios the car will need constant course adjustments at high speeds on freeway(). To make matters bad, it will need planning, and then significant upper-body strength to turn the steering for even the smallest adjustment. The "power" in the power-steering is non-existent. It is impossible to move the wheel with one hand, and requires a constant and tight use of both hands. The result is highly fatigued fingers and hands after some time driving, and a safety hazard. When I contacted the dealer they told me that it is a safety feature to artificially tighten the steering at high speeds by taking some power off it. The only way to bypass this feature is going into "Sports Mode" like in Sonata(), which releases the lock. In Azera, that is not possible using the computer. The only way to go to sports mode is changing the mode to manual transmission. Indeed when driving in manual transmission, the steering behaves correctly. But there is no way to keep the steering in that mode when using automatic transmission. So the buyer has to compromise either having a safe steering, or driving in manual transmission. At any rate for the US roads and cars, a tight steering is unacceptable and unsafe.(*) c.f. Sonata also has the same steering issue for 2012-14 models. So steering design is a problem of the company and not specific models.

This ongoing steering problem was noticed within the 1st thousand miles. This is a top of the line 35 to 40 thousand dollar car. It is attractive and always rec's great remarks from onlookers. The problem is with the steering. When traveling on the open road (interstate) the steering when turned ever so slightly doesn't want to turn. It is a rock hard response that only subsides when additional pressure is put on the wheel. I've had the car into the shop several times with the same reply, "we cannot adjust the steering.." I requested to see a dealer rep and then the dealership asked to bring the car in again to try and calibrate the computer according to the service manager. At that visitation I asked a salesperson to try a 2014 Azera and mister, there is a night and day difference. In fact I commented to the service guy about the difference and he said"yeah, I know." This car is a pain in the ass and todate I've only put on 7000 miles in over a year." P.S. the new Azera has both the electric and hydraulic together for the power steering assembly. Maybe quality control found out what I'm talking about. This dealership is Washington PA. Hyundai .
